Education

Our Programme.

The Drug Free Sport NZ has a responsibility to "provide education on the use of drugs and doping methods in sport". Drug Free Sport NZ produces a variety of material including pamphlets, fact sheets, and a video as well as running seminars for groups of athletes, coaches and others. National Sporting Organisations also have a core responsibility to ensure that their members have all the information they need to understand, comply with and support the anti-doping programme.

It is only when the Agency and NSO's work in close partnership that the education programme can meet its objectives.

Responsibilities of NSO's with respect to education include:
  • Distributing educational materials to their members and particularly to those who will be affected by the anti-doping programme. The Agency will provide those materials as required but crucially once a year when the new prohibited list is published.
  • Ensuring that their athletes understand any specific requirements of the sport, for example reporting of asthma medications, providing whereabouts details etc.
  • Facilitating presentations to their athletes and particularly those moving through academy/development type programmes. This is most crucial and coaches/managers and administrators need to recognise the need to identify opportunities and make the necessary arrangements.
Most of the Agency's resources are available from the website. The site also contains links to other anti-doping web sites many of which hold valuable educational information.
