Athlete Outreach

Drug Free Sport NZ has developed a programme based on WADA's Athlete Outreach Model. The programme provides access to information and staff in the midst of sporting events. Athletes, support staff and others can participate in activities that have been designed to engage and inform about the key aspects of anti-doping programmes. Athletes can do the WADA Athlete Quiz and sign the DFSNZ Athlete Pledge at these events.

How to organise an Outreach at an event?

The programme is very specific and needs to be targeted at large groups of secondary school, or development athletes in order to be effective. Events that Drug Free Sport NZ have supported in the past include The Maadi Cup, National Secondary School Netball/Softball/Athletics/Volleyball Events and some elite sporting events also.

The best approach is to consider a few things first...

• Is the event going to have more than 250 athletes competing?
• Is the event based at a venue that has power?
• Do athletes congregate at the venue or do they arrive, compete and leave very quickly?
