Notification
An anti-doping official (ADO) will notify the athlete that they have been selected for a doping control test. The official, who will be wearing identification will inform the athlete of their rights and responsibilities and will ask them to sign a Notification Form. This can be for both an in-competition or an out of competition test.
Reporting
The athlete must remain in direct sight of the ADO and report to the doping control station to sign in as soon as possible. The athlete may ask for a representative to accompany them.
Choose Collection Vessel
When the athlete is ready to provide a sample, the ADO will ask the athlete to select a sealed sample collection vessel. The athlete will then be taken to a separate private area to provide their sample.
Provide a Sample
The athlete is required to provide a urine sample in direct view of the ADO. The athlete must provide a minimum of 90mls of urine.
Choosing a Tamper Evident Kit
Keeping the sample in view, the athlete will then choose a tamper evident sample kit. The athlete will then be instructed to open the kit and ensure that the numbers on the 'A' and 'B' bottles are identical.
Pour the Sample
The athlete is responsible for pouring their own sample into the testing kit bottles. First pour the correct amount, 30mls, into the 'B' bottle and then pour the remaining amount, this should be 60-80mls, into the 'A' bottle as requested by the ADO.
Sealing the Kit
The athlete will be instructed to seal the sample bottles. The ADO will also check they are sealed. The athlete is then asked to place them back into the sample kit.
Completing the Procedure
Lastly, the athlete will be asked to disclose any medications or supplements/substances they have recently taken. The athlete can also write any comments on the form. The athlete then signs out and the sample collection procedure is finished. |
Sample size
If the sample is less than the required volume, this is called a partial sample. The athlete will be asked to seal the partial sample and give additional samples until the volume requirement is met.
Sample suitability for testing
After the athlete has provided the sample, the ADO will test it's specific gravity. If this is outside the limits the athlete may be asked to give another sample. The athlete will not be asked to provide more than two samples (except in special circumstances).
