Sample Collection

Sample collection is part of the Doping Control process where athletes provide a sample of their urine or blood to be tested for prohibited substances.

Urine Sampling is the most useful medium for detecting most prohibited substances. 

Blood Sampling is used to detect prohibited substances that cannot be be detected in urine such as human growth hormone (HGH) and insulin.  Blood can sometimes be a better alternative to urine to detect some prohibited substances.  Blood is also collected to measure and monitor selected parameters for the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) Programme.  Learn more about ABP testing.
