Glucocorticosteroids

There are multiple paths of administration for glucocorticosteroids. When administering, a doctor needs to consider which Therapeutic Use Exemption form is relevant. (if any). The following illustrations are designed to explain the required TUE's for each administration. Standard TUE required.


systemic.gif Systemically administered corticosteroids require a Standard Therapeutic Use Exemption.
A Standard TUE requires completion by the doctor who is prescribing the medicine and also requires further information from a specialist. Common examples of these medications are prednisone injections for allergic reactions or oral prednisone for inflammation or illnesses. A Standard Therapeutic Use Exemption Form can be downloaded by clicking here - or of the athlete is competing in an international event, please refer to their international federation website or call their national sports organisation for a relevant form.



Abbreviated TUE required.

Anything that doesn’t enter directly to the venous or endocrine system and is not topical - such as creams etc. Requires an Abbreviated Therapeutic Use Exemption form. An Abbreviated TUE requires completion by the doctor who is prescribing the medicine.
