Team doctors and medical professionals are an integral part of the success of our athletes. Drug Free Sport NZ provides a range of resources that are very helpful for doctors and medical professionals who provide guidance to athletes in their care.
When treating an athlete we recommend the following steps:
- Familiarise yourself with the Therapeutic Use Exemption section of this site. There have been many changes in this area which will assist you greatly when dealing with athletes.
- Familiarise yourself with the WADA Prohibited List.
- Familiarise yourself with the requirements of a Therapeutic Use Exemption Application Form. (This form must be completed exhaustively to avoid delays and possible decline)
- Communicate with Drug Free Sport NZ when the athlete is present if possible. This serves to reassure the athlete and also enables us to assist you more efficiently with any application processes. (0800378437)
- Utilise resources such as the MIMS New Ethicals Catalogue which annotates the status of medications for athletes.
Drug Free Sport NZ is currently developing new resources for all medical professionals which will serve to assist you. If you would like to make suggestions regarding the contents and/or format for these resources please contact us by emailing us as below.
