Events for Sport

thumbsup.gifDrug Free Sport NZ acknowledges the contribution that coaches, managers and administrators make towards the success of our country's sports people. To put legs to this support, we offer seminars and other events to assist coaches with building philosophies and strategies that address the key issues around drugs in sport. Our events are not all about information, they are focused on providing forums for discussion and the exchange of ideas based on the concepts such as the spirit of sport and the developement of a generation of athletes who are successful in their endeavours and free from the pressures created by the doping environment.

Special Breakfast with Linda Vagana

Linda.jpgDrug Free Sport NZ and Sport Waitakere hosted a coaches breakfast in Henderson, Auckland on 26th May. The event provided an opportunity for coaches from the Waitakere region to interact with Linda Vagana, ex Silver Fern and National Netball Coach for Samoa,  in an 'on the couch' interview format. The event was attended by over 40 coaches from the region who worked in a variety of sports. Linda shared her philosophy about developing "Total Athletes" by covering physical, mental and spiritual aspects of personal development for players and how this served to ensure that results on court were matched with strong values. Coaches asked a range of questions about dealing with the everyday challenges of team development, interaction with staff and parents, motivation and problem solving. Feedback from the event indicated that coaches enjoyed the breakfast event and found the format allowed for great interaction and clear outcomes for them. Drug Free Sport acknowlegdes the great work done by Lucy Airton, Sport Development Manager at Sport Waitakere and the contibution of all who attended.
