StaffGraeme Steel - Chief Executive - BA(Hons), Dip Tchg Graeme Steel has lead the anti-doping programme in New Zealand since it was established at the NZOC in 1989. He was seconded to the IOC Medical Commission for the Sydney Olympic Games to assist in the oversight of the Doping Control Programme. Graeme has served on WADA Independent Observer Panels at the Davis Cup Final 2003, the Athens Olympics (Deputy Chair), the 2006 Asian Games (Chair) and the Beijing Paralympic Games (Chair). He has represented New Zealand on the WADA Foundation Board and was the President of the Association of National Anti-Doping Organisations (ANADO). Graeme was tested himself at the 1979 Asian Volleyball Championships and continues to participate in a variety of sports. Email Graeme Steel Ella Smits - Intelligence and Testing Programme Manager - BSc/BA (Hons)Ella is responsible for the Intelligence and Testing Programme which involves the management of Intel and investigations. She also is involved in the arrangement of athlete testing, liaising with sporting organisations and monitors athletes whereabouts. Ella comes from a Private Investigation background specialising in Intelligence gathering, backgrounding and tracing. She has worked on high profile fraud and finances cases and was an Intern at New Zealand Police Headquarters during her year at Victoria University. Ella previously competed in rowing for 8 years stopping to complete her degrees in Bachelor of Science and Honors in Arts. Her interests include supporting her partner playing rugby, keeping fit and spending time with her family. Email Ella Smits Dr Bridget Leonard DipPhty(NZ), BSc(Hons), PhD - Programme Manager - Testing/ScienceBridget’s role is monitoring athlete whereabouts, liaising with national sporting organisations, arranging athlete testing internationally and understanding the science associated with anti-doping testing. Bridget initially trained as a physiotherapist and has worked as a physiotherapist in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She has also completed a BSc(Hons) and PhD in Physiology at Universities of Otago and Auckland respectively and has many years research experience in cardiovascular physiology. Having previously represented New Zealand in gymnastics Bridget now keenly participates in multisport, trail running and off-road triathlon events. Email Bridget Leonard Sarah Arrell - TUE Administration As a Registered Nurse, Sarah's key responsibility is to assist athletes and medical professionals with the submission and processing of Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE). She also offers assistance on the 0800 Hotline and website for athletes, support staff and Doctors with enquiries regarding medications. She is a keen sports fan and due to her 'sport mad' family is involved in a variety of sports.Email Sarah Arrell Roger Brown - Accountant Roger is responsible for all of the accounting functions at Drug Free Sport NZ and has been with us since 2004. A graduate of Victoria University in Wellington, he has held a number of senior accounting roles. Over the last few years, Roger has been contracted to organisations in the public and private sectors. Outdoor activities such as body-boarding, skiing and tramping are his major interests. Email Roger Brown _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Maia Jackman MNZM- Education Manager BHSc (Physiotherapy), BSc (Sport and Exercise Science)_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Maia Jackman joined DFSNZ in late October as the new Education Manager. Maia spent many years playing football for New Zealand and around the world. She worked with NZ Football as a National Development Officer focusing on education. She also worked on the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup as Schools Coordinator and Competition Manager. Prior to joining us Maia worked as a Sports Physiotherapist and continues to practice on a smaller scale. Maia was recently awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to football._________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Scott Tibbutt -Operations Manager - BBS_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Scott has recently joined DFSNZ and is responsible for the efficient operations of Drug Free Sport NZ, ensuring compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements to enable the effective conduct of anti-doping work. Scott holds a Bachelor of Business Studies in Sports Management & Coaching from Massey University and has worked throughout the Sport & Recreation sector in both commercial and public organisations within New Zealand and the UK over the last 15 years.
